Living with a Person with Aspergers
I have a brother who was diagnosed with Aspergers. He is 17 years old now. When you look at him, he’s just like any other kid. But when you start talking with him, you will find that he doesn’t talk much and he does not make eye contact often. It’s because a person with Aspergers can be detached from reality at times. He has difficulty communicating with others. The only time that you will find him enthusiastic about something is when he talks about airplane models. He can talk to you about it for hours. When we were young, we all thought that he was just the quiet time. He was not like other kids who are rowdy and like to have fun outdoors. He would just play with his toy airplanes. He was having a hard time in regular school. His teacher brought this to my parents’ attention and that’s when we learned that something was wrong with him.
